About the SRC

Most of the questions I've gotten over the years have been, to one degree or the other, concerning Shakespeare and his works. Not altogether surprising, given that it's a site about Shakespeare. However, there have been enough personal or site-related questions over the past four plus years that it seemed reasonable to put together a page with some of the more useful information about the SRC itself and the editor.

SRC History—A Retrospective
After this latest redesign of the Shakespeare Resource Center, I got to thinking about the progression of the site from 1997 to the present. Fortunately, I'm as much of a packrat with files as I am with paper. Armed with the original index pages, I created snapshots of the site with accompanying text—some explanations, some apologies, and some anecdotes.
How Do I Cite the SRC? (MLA Style)
There is a citation example on the copyright page. There's also a link to some other citation examples elsewhere on the Web.
How Do I Contact the SRC?
There is a contact page with a form that e-mails the webmaster. It's a quick and painless process.
Can I Donate to the SRC?
Yes. Click on the "PayPal Donation" button at the left of the page. Nobody has to give a dime (which is why it's called "giving"), and there is no minimum to donate, should you choose to do so. PayPal handles the whole transaction quickly and securely over the Web.
All proceeds—I can't stress this enough—from donations or commissions go entirely toward the cost of hosting and maintaining the site. The benefit of this arrangement is that I don't have to compromise the site with banner ads, pop-up windows, or any of the other bothersome visual clutter that has become associated with the World Wide Web.
Why can't I see colors and fonts on this site?
I've long since given up trying to support style sheets with, say, Internet Explorer 3 or Netscape 4. If all you see is a plain white page with Times New Roman font and no colors other than links, then you have an older browser that is in dire need of an upgrade. Although, unlike many other websites that incorporate CSS standards in their design, you will be perfectly able to read all the content on this site.
About the Editor
J. M. Pressley has a B.F.A. in Theatre Arts and an M.A. in Writing, both from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. He has been the designer, webmaster, and content editor of the Shakespeare Resource Center since its inception in 1997. He lives somewhere in northern Illinois with his wife and their pets.
About the Site
The original concept was an assignment that I had to do for a class in technical writing at DePaul University, where I pursued my Masters degree. I wanted to create a site that more or less centralized the most useful links on Shakespeare around the World Wide Web. It took a lot of work, and I couldn't let it go, so I've kept on revising it ever since (when I've found the time).
The site is updated usually in one of three ways. Sometimes it's a major growth spurt (like tossing in 38 play synopses). Sometimes it's a major redesign project. And sometimes, it's pruning dead links and adding new ones, sort of an ad hoc basis. However, it's also almost never as I originally plan it. The last major site redesign started as an attempt merely to include a stylesheet into the design. 120 hours later, it had turned into this.
